Why would teams want to foul near the end of the game when its really close? I mean why do you want them to get to the foul line so then they have more of a chance to score...I never understood this concept.

This is one of the strategies of the game.the winning team tries to do so to distract the losing team and to have better hold over the game. Where as the losing team also does this to have advantage of getting a chance to win over the winning team.

Oh ok, I guess that makes sense. I just didn't see why you would give the team more of a chance at scoring in more of a controlled situation because no one would be blocking the person.

I can’t understand that concept too because they are just giving more time for the opposing team. I think this has something with them making a statement that they will never give them any easy shots.

well i think that at the end of game the team gets overexcited and they make wrong decisions in haste.I feel that its quite natural.

I think that they are just trying to send a message to the next opponent that they won’t give an easy shot even though they are the ones that are leading. It is a sort of intimidation factor. They are just playing with the heads of their competitors.

well we can not predict much about the concept but i guess that at the end ,the pressure on players is doubled and all happens due to this.

I forgot to mention that on my previous posting. Thanks for adding that here. Pressure is the other thing that let them have some mistakes (only for those who are loosing), and the other thing one mentioned on my previous comments.

Yes you are quite right it is the pressure on the teams that results into such tactics, the one who budges to this pressure, sees the win drift away.:( :(

fouling slows the game down. rather than allowinq 24 seconds for each possession you cut the other teams possession to 10 or less. I mean you could not stop them all night but now you can? putting the other team at the line puts all the pressure on them.

also NBA players are often poor freethrow shooters.

To be honest, I think a new rule should be enforced that if a player fouls under a minute left to play, he should be automatically ejected from the game. That might cut down on the delays, and some of the most important games won't be decided on bad calls. :D

i could never understand this thing but i believe that its a part of their stratagies.I dont think they do it in excitement or pressure.

I wonder if they do it because the sponsors haven't used up all their advertising spots yet. :D That would certainly make sense when they talk about those "TV timeouts".
