Alright!! Awesome! So would you mind explaining to me exactly what Aussie rules football entails? Is it like Rugby or American football or European football? Sorry for not being in the know.

So first question: what's the ball like? round? oblong? Is it made of leather or pigskin? Do you pass it, throw it, or kick it? How about equipment? Do they wear helmets, knee pads, shin guards, or nothing at all?

Well...it appears as though no one knows the answer to this question. I could look it up on wikipedia, but since no one is answering I wonder if the sport is even cool enough for me to spend time doing such a thing.

Ok guys I have been AWOL (sick again). I am an Australian and know Riv and Fish from the Dolphin Boards and Fantasy Football.
The difference betwwen the 2 games is huge. Gridiron is based upon RUGBY, which originated in England. Australian Rules football or footy as we call started 150 years ago by early settlers in a couple of states. It has grown from there and has overtaken Rugby as the number one winter sport. Soccer, is the world's biggest football game by far, but here in OZ it is still far behind both footy and rugby.

The rules are relatively simple but open to the umpires(referees) interpretation of said rules leading to much angst and debating amonst the fans. Sound familiar?
Ok the sides or teams if you like are made up of 22 players to each team. 18 to be pn the oval(playing ground) at anytime during the game. The remaining 4 players can be substuted at any time and more than once. The 18 players are theorically standing 1 player, think basketball positions, in fact they run all over the oval these days. The game is started by one of the 3 maggots also known as umpires and 2 opposing ruckman jump into air and try and knock the ball to a team mate and the idea is to take the ball down to that team's goals and score. The is down by passing the ball by foot or by handball. The other team tries to get the ball off the other team and if successful take it to their goals. Does this sound confusing? I am getting confused writing it. Basically they run around getting jumped on, kicking and handballing the ball until one sides scores a goal and the the ball is bounced in the centre and it all starts again
The games is played in 4 quarters of 25 minutes plus time on for injuries and goal scoring. at the end of each quarter there is a short break. A siren is used to signal the start and end of the quarter.
