With Shaq, I have to believe it's all an issue of motivation. One gets the impression he could be a lot better if properly motivated. That's not to say he's capable of playing at the same level of his peak years...but he can be better than he has been. Maybe this trade, and a chance at one more title, will do the trick. If so, it'll be pretty impressive for him to have won titles with three different teams, and gone to the NBA Finals with four!

I love shaq. love um.
but disappointed in his conditioning and at times his attitude.
if shaq worked like karl malone or kobe his game would still be at a high level.
he let himself go.

Yeah, he did. But his legacy as one of the greatest players of all time is secure, and he's got a handful of rings. It's got to be hard for him to get excited at this point...especially after winning with the Heat. That just caps off his career completely.
This trade to Phoenix, though...might just do it. I don't see Shaq helping any time much unless something gets him fired up.

I think that this trade will boost the frontline of the Phoenix Suns, but they will have to wait until old Shaq is fully recovered from his injury. I remember Jabar also faces such problem and has proven that he can still dominate at his 40’s.

Yes i think both have their own pros and cons. And it will be wrong to compare them.as both are good.

shaq was a lot like wilt... agile and inhumanly powerful...
jabbar created his game..... no one like him.

I'm not sure that I would have ever called Shaq 'agile'. Powerful, strong, and big, yes. Agile and quick, no. Lumbering, yes. Able to grant wishes (Kazaam!), yes!

no man shaqs size moved like him...slow compared to small guys....
I had floor seats for the last game in shaqs first season in LA .... he went coast to coast on one play were at the free throwline he did a spin move 360 while DRIBBLING and he dunked....
on tv it looked good... standing on the floor it looked like a man mountain doing ballet... i expected his knees to explode....
early on shaq could move!

Fine, Shaq could move. You can say that, but you're always gonna have to add 'for a big man.' I agree though that he was much faster and springier (is that a word) than Yao Ming, Georges Muresan, and Shawn Bradley.

I never think of him as an agile player. For me he is still slow, but I think that he can guard anyone taller than him. I bet that he could defeat Yao Ming all the time. I could even say that he is among the NBA legends.

I'll agree with you on that. He is a 4 time NBA champion who has 3 NBA Finals MVPs. He is a 14 time all star and was the 2000 NBA MVP. In fact, I think he might be a legend based on nicknames alone: (from Wikipedia) Shaq, Shaq Daddy, The Big Aristotle, The Big Diesel, The Shaq Attack, the Man of Steel, and the Showman of Big Men.

Good comments!
I like the fact that I’m not the only one who sees him as a great athlete. Although he is slow, he is still one of the most dominating players on the court. Being a great athlete doesn’t really mean that you must be an agile player but it only means that you can carry your team on your back by blending with the team and making the team even greater.

I definitely agree with Postman. There' s is more to a basketball game than being quick. You also need court sense, strength, skill, and smartness. Combine that with speed and my friends...I think I've developed the 5 S's necessary for NBA domination!!!

I think the suns have made a great trade.Shaq is a great player with a great height advantage. He plays well especially at dunking and blocking.

I think Shaq being traded to the Suns is a good mood. If he is properly motivated he is still a great basketball player. I saw him play with Miami and he was still a solid foundation on the defensive side.
